The Denver Broncos

Is Sean Payton the guy that gets this team out of its weird spot and pushes them forward? I have been very critical of Payton even in his New Orleans days and not because of his behind the scenes stuff but his coaching. He is on a six year deal now which gives him time to build so let’s see what he did this year with the first four picks and what the future looks like.
With the 12th pick, the Broncos selected Bo Nix (QB). Bo was the most accurate out of the group that came out this year but the knock is his arm strength and there were a lot of behind the line of scrimmage passes this past year. Bo has been in college for six years now and coming off his best season has shown a great ability to not turn the ball over. I think he needs to be the day 1 starter and can help this Broncos team win some close games.
Pick 76 is my favorite of the Broncos this year with Jonah Elliss (OLB). Elliss lined up outside the tackle primarily and gives the Broncos their first shot at having a pass-rusher get 10+ sacks since Von Miller. I think Elliss will need to put on a little bit more size to compete with most OTs but he has the potential and should be in the lineup early with a group that does not show much pressure.
At 102nd pick Troy Franklin (WR) the Broncos got some very good value here. Franklin showed out with his now QB again Bo Nix. This was a great move not only because Franklin is an outstanding receiver but it gives your new QB a familiar face in the building. With the departure of Jerry Jeudy Franklin should see some good reps and I can see him having a good rookie campaign.
Pick 145 is another amazing value grab for the Broncos with Kris Abrams-Draine (CB). Abrams-Draine posted his lowest passer rating allowed for his career at 54.7 this past year. Surtain being in the debate for CB #1 helps someone like Kris that he won’t be called upon to take the number one guy right into it but allowed to work his way in and learn from Surtain. He will be a valuable depth piece for the Broncos and can be impactful in years to come.
I do really like this draft by Denver, it had lots of value picks and it and guys that’ll see reps early. It’s no secret that Nix was not looked at highly by most but Payton sees a future with him. I see some good and I see conservative nature that can help keep the ball out of the defense’s hands. This draft earned a nice B+ from me. The future is bright but I can see the Broncos still being 3rd in the division with a losing record. They need to be involved in some close games and not get blown out like last year. 7-10 is a good year for them I think.
