The New Orleans Saints

The Saints are very competitive and continue to be on the brink of a playoff berth each year but just cannot get over that hump since Brees retired. Carr had a slow start but started heating up towards the end of the year but it was too late at that point. With the Idea that Carr is the option at QB for the foreseeable future let’s see how their first four picks went and talk about the future for them.

Pick 14 Taliese Fuaga (OT) could have been the first tackle off the board and I would have agreed. Falling to 14 was due to the “Skill” position players being so good in this draft and that helped the Saints grab an absolute Monster. Fuaga did not allow a single in college with over 800 pass blocking snaps. Fuaga is coming in to start and coming to dominate the line of scrimmage.

Another steal in my opinion at 41 Kool-Aid Mckinstry (CB) for the Saints. Mckinstry and Arnold were two lock down corners for the Crimson Tide and both could have been 1sr rounders. Kool-Aid could be better with his hands especially with the ball in the air but this is a pick that the Saints made with intent for him to learn from Lattimore but probably be his replacement.

I do really like pick 150 Spencer Rattler (QB) for the value I think he provides. Rattler has had a few rough years and was once looked upon as a bonafide first rounder. Rattler had a very solid year playing some very good competition and not having the best supporting cast especially on the o-line. I think Rattler is depth right now in case of injury but I could see him working his way up the ranks overall through camp and next year. Great arm talent, he just needs to hit the film room and get coached up to build confidence.

Staying in the 5th round pick 170 Bub Means (WR) joins a wide receiver room that will need him on day 1. Having Olave being the number 1 will take pressure off Means but with 4.43 speed Bub will be asked and called upon to make an impact and stretch the field to open things up for other players. I like the pick and with a revamped offense Means could have a chance to get some really good looks.

I do not think Carr is the option the Saints need in order to get them to a superbowl but he is the only option right now and has plenty of good football in him. This draft is going to help him and help this team grow and compete for the division. This draft the Saints had I would give a very good A too. Expectations for the Saints are to win the division and after this draft I think that is a good look at it. I do not think a playoff win is in the cards but a playoff berth is realistic inside that division.
