The Washington Commanders

The Commanders are a tough team to gauge right now because of the 900 off-season additions they had. Hard to gauge is not a bad thing though, it just means I would like to see a few games before I can make an opinion on the team. The team was very much improved so let’s see how they did with their first four picks and talk about the future of the Commanders.
A no brainer pick at number 2 Jayden Daniels (QB). Daniels would have been the number 1 in 99/100 drafts if this draft did not have Caleb Williams in it. At 50 total touchdowns Daniels proved his ability to pass the ball at every spot on the field and could extend plays and be your rushing attack if needed. Jayden’s Heisman season was very special and having two first round WRs helps a lot too. Daniels is going to set the course right for the Commanders and new ownership could not be happier.
Home run pick at 36 with Jer’Zhan Newton (DT) who was projected to go top 20 easily. Newton has some physical limitations due to body size/dimensions but he is a bull at 6’ 2 295 pounds. Getting to the QB 7 times and causing “Hurries” 29 times this year made for a very good look at him in the first round. Unfortunately for him from the financial side he did fall out of round one but that made it even better for the Commanders to grab another great d-lineman and bolster a defense that is going to have high expectations with coach Quinn there now.
At pick 50 the Commanders got their future slot corner Mike Sainristil (CB). Sainristil is coming into a defensive secondary that needs help dearly. Forbes on the outside is a whole separate issue being only 100 pounds soaking wet but getting Mike from a very good Michigan Program will help them and only get better.
A good depth grab with pick 53 Ben Sinnott (TE). Ben will be behind Zach Ertz for now but should see some pretty good work in the two TE sets and could even get some decent red-zone looks. He will make a better blocker than Ertz out of the gate just because of his size and could be seeing some starting time based on Zach’s history with injuries.
This is the best the team has looked in a while (on paper) this will probably be the best rookie QB season a Washington quarterback will have since RG3 and possibly better. There is going to be decent expectations for them especially after this draft class that I give an A+ too. The future of the Commanders should be good since it is very youthful with some very experienced guys around. I would say 8-9 is a very good season all things considered and then the future will only be up from here on out.
