The Seattle Seahawks

A year that was supposed to be a high flying offense with unlimited talent that turned into a mediocre year with no playoff berth for Seattle. With a new coach and new leadership the Seahawks should see things differently and be a bit more disciplined. Let’s dive into how the new coach and higher ups picked their first four draft picks and talk about what is up the road for Seattle.
A home run grab at 16 with Byron Murphy (DT). Mike Macdonald wanted to have his staple up front next to Leondard Williams and he got it with Murphy. Byron led the country in pressure percentage and got the QB 6 times and caused 36 “Hurries.” There is no reason for Murphy to not be starting on that line and or getting a ton of reps in rotation if Seattle is serious about winning.
Another great grab at 81 for the Seahawks with Christian Haynes (RG). Haynes allowed only one sack over three years paying RG for UConn. Haynes saw plenty of snaps over those three years and will have to earn his spot of course but another player that should be starting in the offense come day one.
A loss of Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks means you have a huge load to fill and Tyrice Knight might be called upon. At pick 118 the Seahawks took a decent gamble grabbing Knight out of UTEP but there could be some good upside and sitting behind Jerome Baker could give him time to grow and much needed time to get up to speed with how the NFL game is played.
121 is another depth add for sure and AJ Barner (TE) will be used to help Kenneth Walker get down the field and in the end zone. Barner being a part of Jim Harbaugh’s pro style team will help AJ get up to speed faster than someone like Tyrice Knight but with them being two different positions it’s hard to tell how either of them will do. Either way Barner is going to be on the line making blocks and at most used in some bootleg opportunities when Fant is covered up.
I do not love this draft past their first two picks but they added solid pieces and depth to a team that hung around and grabbed 9 wins last year. I would give them a generous B- for this 2024 class. The future is up in the air for Seattle, they have a new coach in a very tough division and probably the 3rd best roster. I see a similar season in the books at 9-8 but can see the opposite at 8-9 at the most.
